Will I have to take my clothes off?
No! Because Shiatsu works with the body's internal energy (or Ki) it is practised through clothing.
What does Shiatsu feel like?
Clients have reported various different sensations during and after shiatsu, for example:
A feeling of warmth spreading throughout the body
A sense of connection between different areas of the body
Feeling 'lighter' or more 'spacious'
Feeling more grounded
An area of the body 'waking up' or becoming more 'alive'
A deep state of relaxation
Is Shiatsu painful?
Receiving shiatsu is a deeply relaxing and enjoyable experience. During Shiatsu clients sometimes report sensations that feel 'strong but like it's doing good'. I will always check in with you to make sure that my pressure is not too strong and will ease off or stop if you want me to.
How many sessions will I need?
This is up to you and may vary depending on why you have come for Shiatsu. Generally the longer you have had a condition the longer it will take to get better; however sometimes changes can happen quickly. People with a specific problem often choose to have a course of Shiatsu, for example one session every 2 or 3 weeks for 6 sessions or more. Some people swear by a monthly Shiatsu to maintain health. Others choose to have a Shiatsu every now and then. I am happy to discuss this with you.
Do I have to have something 'wrong' with me in order to have Shiatsu?
No. Many people have regular Shiatsu sessions to maintain health, to relax, or simply because they enjoy it.
